Went to the new behavioral place for an assessment yesterday.
DJP qualifies for this afternoon program, where they will pick her up and she'll have group and individual and art and play therapy. It will be every afternoon for 6 to 8 weeks.
The dilemma,
and it might sound silly,
but if DJP goes to the afternoon she'll have to give up all her dance, chorus, and photography classes which she is so loving. I tried to explain that going would help her get well sooner and she started crying and asked if she could get well going somewhere else and stay in her clubs?
I had imagined her going to a therapist once a week or I would've never gotten her involved in the clubs.
So now I'm trying to get input. When I called A to get her input she understood the dilemma and said that DJP hasn't loved anything or seemed as happy in a long time.
It's like my mind is saying "She needs this intensive therapy." but my heart is saying, "She loves her clubs and is thriving."
What to do, what to do? Input please. and please pray that we make the right decision.

Tough call. I would go with your heart on this matter because she is thriving. If she qualifies now, she will still qualify IF you need to make a change later. My concern would be that if you take her away from these things that she loves then it will be stressful for her and may cause her to "act out". If it ain't broke, don't fix it. :) If you can find a therapist for her to see regularly without having to give up her other activities (atleast for now), may be the better option. You can always put this afterschool therapy on the backburner. How are Meme and Grandpa doing?
ReplyDeleteI've been praying so hard for you all, and hate you've hit your first bump in the road already. Kim sounds about right on this to me (what was she doing that she was up e-mailing at 4:17 AM??? :-) ). What about the original places you were going to take her, where you couldn't get her in for like three weeks? Are any of them any less intense? Like once or twice a week? If so, since she's doing so well, could you hold off for one of those places? I know they said when she was still in SC it would be intensive therapy, but guess I for one wasn't thinking every single day. Thanks so much for keeping us up to date with the blog. We're praying, praying, praying...
